Volunteer Spotlight!

Denise started volunteering with GiGi’s Playhouse Canton in August for our pilot Literacy program. She has now taken on the role of the Literacy Coordinator and the host leader of Fantastic Friends! “I never thought I would immerse myself completely into the organization. I thought I was going to be here every so often doing little things and now I’m here running Literacy and helping with Fantastic Friends! The environment that the playhouse has is so freeing and accepting of all people, which is important to those with Down syndrome and to those who have never felt accepted anywhere else. It is a safe place for persons with Down syndrome, but people often don’t realize that it’s open to ALL people! GiGi’s is filled to the brim with love and kindness. I feel it every day I set foot in the door. I am constantly greeted with smiles and hugs. That’s all that we really need in life — love and acceptance.”
