From Shy Beginnings to Confident Connections

Three years ago, we shared the story of a shy little girl just beginning her journey at the Playhouse — carefully stepping into a new environment, building trust, and celebrating small but meaningful “Best of All” moments. Today, Hadlie’s story is one of incredible growth, confidence, and connection 💛

Since that blog post was written, Hadlie has truly blossomed socially. She now walks into the Playhouse with confidence and without fear — no hesitation, no uncertainty. She comes through the doors ready to see her friends and jumps right into play and purposeful programs, often walking straight up to a peer to start an activity or conversation. For a child who once felt startled in new environments, this transformation has been nothing short of incredible.

Hadlie is actively engaged in both group and one-on-one programs. She participates enthusiastically, communicates with growing clarity, and shows comfort in social settings that once felt overwhelming. She has developed meaningful peer connections and truly understands that the Playhouse is a safe space where she belongs — a true home away from home.

Over the past few years, Hadlie has participated in so many of our programs, including math tutoring, literacy tutoring, speech therapy, GiGiFIT, and our community-based occupational therapy program. While each has supported her growth, the Amina Grace Speech and Language Program at GiGi’s Playhouse has had an especially powerful impact on her social development. Through these experiences, Hadlie has built confidence, independence, and social bravery — something both her family and our team have witnessed firsthand in her interactions, eye contact, willingness to initiate, and her joy in group participation.

Her parents shared just how meaningful this journey has been for their family:

“The Playhouse means so much to ourselves and our daughter, it has given our daughter the ability to thrive in every aspect. The openness and the acceptance we’ve received for our daughter is nothing short of greatness and extreme blessings. Hadlie would not be where she is today — GiGi’s brought her out of her shy, scared little shell and has transformed her into the outgoing, loving, loud little angel she is to everyone she meets. GiGi’s means understanding, caring, and acceptance to ourselves and our daughter. We are blessed beyond measure to have found them.”

“A moment that is memorable for us about our daughter Hadlie is this… when she first came into the Playhouse, partially due to COVID, Hadlie wasn’t around very many children at all. She had an episode around the age of two when her young cousin was crying, and she was completely overwhelmed. After that, she wasn’t able to be around other children without becoming extremely upset. We tried everything with no progress. We had heard of GiGi’s Playhouse and decided to try speech therapy and open play. It took time, but through the patience, love, and care of the incredible volunteers and staff, Hadlie broke out of that frightened stage and has been progressing ever since. She is starting preschool this year, and we owe her readiness to the loving family of GiGi’s Playhouse.”

Stories like Hadlie’s are why we do what we do. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that with consistency, support, and belief, confidence can grow, friendships can flourish, and fear can turn into joy.
