Celebrating the Worth of Every Individual: Down Syndrome Awareness Month & Disability Employment Awareness Month
October is both Down Syndrome Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month – a special time to celebrate the unique strengths, talents, and contributions of individuals with disabilities, including those with Down syndrome.

At GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, we believe awareness is just the beginning. True inclusion happens when our community recognizes the value and potential every person brings to the table. Although we celebrate the worth of individuals with Down syndrome all year long, October is a special time to help bring our vision to life: to see a world where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools, and communities.
For too long, employment opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome have been limited by misconception rather than capability. Every day, we see that when given the chance, individuals with Down syndrome thrive as dependable, enthusiastic, and creative employees. Their determination, positivity, and ability to build meaningful connections enrich workplaces and strengthen communities.
Across the GiGi’s network, programs like GiGi Prep and GiGi University prepare adults with Down syndrome for success through hands-on learning, communication practice, and career readiness. Here in Canton, our participants are already building those foundational skills through our free, life-changing therapeutic and educational programs and through meaningful volunteer experiences both within and outside of the Playhouse. This upcoming year, we’re working toward the next big step: bringing career development programs to GiGi’s Playhouse Canton.

This initiative will empower adults with Down syndrome in our community to gain independence, confidence, and meaningful employment, helping them reach their Best of All while showing the world what they can achieve.
Join us in turning awareness into action.
