Volunteer Spotlight: Kevin

Name:
Kevin Jordan

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am 39 years old and I am in a wheelchair. I was born with a birth defect called spina bifida.

We want to get to know you! What are some of your favorites? (food, color, season, activity, restaurant, place to shop, etc.)
My favorite food is pizza. I like the fall because my birthday is in the fall.

How did you learn about GiGi’s and what prompted you to become a volunteer?
I learned about GiGi’s through a friend of mine, Nick Doyle, who was born with Down syndrome. I took a tour of the Playhouse and I loved their mission and that’s what prompted me to volunteer.
“When I first saw the inside and took a tour of the place, I knew right then that this is what I want to do. The facility is the best thing I have ever seen and their mission is just awesome! I knew I had to be a part of that as a volunteer.”

Tell us more about what you do at the Playhouse!
I do whatever they need me to do. I am a program co-leader for Destination Discovery and a literacy tutor.
What is your favorite experience you have had at the Playhouse?
There are too many to name!
“I am having so much fun at GiGi’s! It’s so rewarding! By far the best thing I have ever done in my life!”
Kevin has been advocating for GiGi’s Playhouse since he first came in for his tour in May of 2022. He started volunteering immediately after and showed an eagerness to get as involved as possible. Kevin has always been a voice for our community and spreads our message of acceptance for all, whether it is through his role as a volunteer with GiGi’s, his involvement with the Challenger baseball team, or his overall friendships. Thanks for all you do, Kevin!
