Where Parachutes Lift You Up!

By: Sandy Shearer

As a volunteer for the Tuesday morning LMNOP class, I get to watch things unfold…and it’s a beautiful thing to see!

The LMNOP (Language, Music, ‘N Our Peeps) class is for babies 0-3 years old filled with purposeful and fun activities. Tressa D. leads us in learning basic sign language, singing, dancing and playing with musical instruments with lots of laughing and fun! The bubbles and the parachute might be my favorite because that’s when I’ve heard the most giggles, especially when the babies are under the parachute rather than on top! Our arms get a major workout!

I love to watch the faces of the babies during the Hello and Goodbye songs when they hear their name being sung and realize “Hey! They’re singing to me!” I see the joy in a mom’s eyes when her baby signs back in response and everyone cheers!

But, one of the best parts, is watching the parents connect with one another. During and after class, I see them talking, laughing and sharing their lives. They are giving and getting support from each other and are forming bonds that may last a lifetime! They may come to GiGi’s for their kids and the programs, but they are also there for each other. It’s amazing how this program instills hope and confidence not only in the children but also in the parents.

I have met some amazing families and kids that I look forward to seeing each week. I feel very fortunate to be a small part of helping these moms, dads, siblings, and sometimes friends and their babies get the support that they need, and it’s so great to see everyone striving to be the best that they can be. I recommend stopping by during any of the classes to see what GiGi’s Playhouse Annapolis is all about. You won’t be disappointed, and you will definitely walk away with a smile!
