When businesses and organizations began to swing the doors wide open again this spring, the School of Rock Annapolis House Band, comprised of students ranging in age from 14 to 17, went back into action, rehearsing and preparing for community-based performances.   During a volunteer tutoring session at GiGi’s Annapolis, one of the House Band members had an “ah-ha” moment – “It would be cool if we could perform HERE!”  And with that idea, a great plan was put into play. On June 25, Fantastic Friends welcomed the School of Rock Annapolis House Band for an evening of live music and dancing.  This was the first House Band performance since the pandemic, and they were honored to kick off their summer performance season at GiGi’s. Charlotte Pfabe shared, “Becoming a Literacy Tutor at GiGi’s has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.  Being able to perform for the Fantastic Friends Beach Party was such an amazing experience not only for me, but for the rest of the band as well.  As our first official performance, GiGi’s holds a special place in our hearts.”

The Fantastic Friends danced away the beach-themed night to songs from the 80’s, 90’s and today, including Top 40 hits, traditional rock and roll, and summertime selections.  With the lights reflecting off the disco ball, neon necklaces, and beach balls being tossed around, the Fantastic Friends kept the energy at an all-time high.  The House Band belted out the tunes, rocking GiGi’s Annapolis for two hours straight!  Some of the Friends even came up to the stage and rocked out with some air guitar and joined in with some background vocals.  It was a blast!

School of Rock Annapolis logoEd Beever, General Manager of School of Rock Annapolis summed it up perfectly, “School of Rock is a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching the lives of others through performance-based music education. It was great to see our House Band bring this mission statement to life! We are excited to continue our partnership with GiGi’s Annapolis!” The School of Rock Annapolis House Band is working to come back to GiGi’s for more performances so stay tuned!  There will be more “Rockin’ the ‘House” soon!

A big thank you to School of Rock for partnering with GiGi’s! It was wonderful to come together again and do what friends love to do together … DANCE!
