NYSE on Halloween

During the week of Halloween, we received an invitation from Jennifer at the Long Island Playhouse to join them at the NYSE closing bell on October 31st! This was an incredible opportunity, and although it was short notice, we sent invites to all our families. Unfortunately, most already had plans to celebrate Halloween. However, one family did sign up; Millie and her mom joined us in NYC. Millie was thrilled to take the train.

When we arrived at the New York Stock Exchange, we met them, had a snack and a drink, and waited for the event to begin. Millie was fantastic; she participated in a photo shoot on stage with Ruari and Derek, two participants from Long Island. Although she was initially hesitant, she eventually joined them and enjoyed herself. Each was presented with a coin engraved with their name before we headed to the trading floor. Once we reached the trading floor, they signed their names in the guest book and were instructed when to ring the bell. Millie did a fantastic job, even though the bell was quite loud. All three of them were superstars, following the complicated instructions with ease. It was an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful to our friends at the Long Island Playhouse for including us on this special day. What a tremendous way to close out Down Syndrome Awareness Month!
