Board Secretary Dawn…”It has been a journey I’ll never forget! “

GiGi’s Playhouse Wausau has a small but mighty Board of Managers, many who have served since the beginning of our journey. The Board is always looking to add new faces that can provide fun yet strategic experience and ideas! And as the Playhouse continues to grow, this is a volunteer role we would love to grow as well. Why did you join the GiGi’s Playhouse Wausau Board?

I joined the GiGi’s Playhouse Wausau board of managers after attending a fundraising event in 2019. At the event, a local business owner stood up out of the crowd to share why he supported GiGi’s. He explained that over the years two different employees relocate their families to Madison after giving birth to a child with Down Syndrome. Wausau simply didn’t have the support and resources larger communities like Madison could offer. I was shocked. I had no idea how much Central Wisconsin needed a place like GiGi’s. That was the moment I knew had I to get involved. 

What is one thing about your role as secretary you enjoy?

I enjoy being the board secretary because I get to support a cause I care about and collaborate with other community-minded people that are passionate about GiGi’s. 

What would you like to share with someone interested in the secretary role?

There are so many benefits to serving as board secretary! You get to help shape the organization and its strategic direction, enhance your organizational skills, build relationships with other volunteers, and contribute to the success of GiGi’s. And as GiGi’s continues to grow, the role will only become more and more rewarding! 

One thing you have gained personally with your experience on the board?

This is a tough one to answer because I’ve gained a lot. More than anything though, I’d like to share that it has been an honor to work alongside volunteers and families to help make GiGi’s a reality. Together, we created a place where everyone belongs. That is incredibly meaningful to me. It has been a journey I’ll never forget!
