The Impact of One Volunteer

You might think that the only way to make a difference in your community is to donate money.  While financial contributions are certainly welcomed and useful at GiGi’s Playhouse, volunteering can be just as helpful. Volunteering within the Playhouse can take on many forms. Some volunteers you many never see and chose to be behind the scenes.  This does not lesson their impact, they are still raising awareness and providing hope in ways often unseen.

One example of this type of volunteer is Jane Hanson.  Jane is the grandmother to a beautiful little boy named Corbyn.  Her love for Corbyn is clear and so is her dedication to bringing resources and support through GiGi’s Playhouse.  Jane has said that she is not one for recognition or being on the news but we feel a little discomfort is needed to highlight her volunteering behind the scenes!

Jane has used her talents to not only fundraise for Corbyn’s Believe in Our Build team but to also provide a little comfort to new parents of baby born with Down syndrome.  She has made hundreds of masks and instead of taking payment has asked for donations to be made to GiGi’s instead, bringing in $2,000!  She has also made several beautiful blankets to be used in our New Parents Welcome Baskets.  These blankets will be part of the “Welcome and Congratulations” that several new parents in our area may hear for the first time! We are sorry Jane for your discomfort, but we wanted to tell everyone how grateful we are for you and appreciate the impact you have had on GiGi’s Playhouse Wausau!

Thank you Jane and to all those volunteers behind the scenes!
