Finding purpose through volunteering
Volunteering virtually is such a great way to make an impact in your community. But don’t take our word for it. Let’s hear from Marisa, our Kid’s Club Program Leader this summer, about why she got involved and how she feels about her volunteer role with GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse.
“I wanted to connect with people and make a small impact in someone’s life, which motivated me to get involved with GiGi’s Playhouse! I volunteer for Kid’s Club as the summer program leader! In Kid’s Club, we work on social skills by having the participants interact with each other and the volunteers, as well as through games and videos! We also work with participants on gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and self-help skills through our crafts and activities. Our main goal in Kid’s Club is to have fun, get to know new people, and continue to expand our knowledge.”
“My ‘best of all moment’ has been seeing how much progress has been made when it comes to the kids coming out of their “shells” and socializing more. Seeing this progress has made me feel like my volunteer work is truly making a difference. “Volunteering is a great way to be a part of your community, make a difference in the lives of other people, gain new experiences, find a sense of purpose, and gain a whole bunch of knowledge. GiGi’s is such a great organization to volunteer for because they make such a huge difference in the lives of many, and they are amazing to their volunteers!”
“Volunteering for GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse has been such an amazing experience, and I plan to continue volunteering with them for as long as I can!”

The Joy of Story Telling
At the heart of our Virtual Playhouse lies something truly special, the joy of storytelling. We are incredibly fortunate to have a dynamic mother-daughter duo who volunteer with us each month to create a magical Storytime experience for our participants. DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH — PROVIDING THE RUNWAY FOR ACCEPTANCE!
We’ve all been there before — we walk into a room, and for whatever reason, it feels like all eyes are on us. For most of us, this is a fleeting feeling, but for individuals with Down syndrome, this is a daily reality. Individuals with Down syndrome wear their diagnosis on their face. Because of…
