GiGi’s Playhouse 5k & Dash for Down Syndrome – Team Ellie!

Have you met Ellie yet? She is fantastic! You can find her at Hop, Skip & Jumpers, at Open Play and really anytime we have fun events going on. Ellie and her family have been amazing participants and supporters all along!

Heather (aka Ellie’s mom) is going to tell us a little more about Team Ellie!

1. Which team are you representing and what is your relationship to the team?

Team Ellie! Ellie is almost three and 1⁄2. Ellie is my amazing, beautiful, smart, inspiring, bold, smiley, strong daughter who is the best big sister to Finnegan!!

2. Is this or your team’s first time in the GiGi’s Playhouse 5K? What made you want to join?

We have been a part of this every year!

3. Why is the GiGi’s Playhouse 5K important to you and your loved one, or what does it represent for you?

It is a great opportunity to help raise awareness for the playhouse and individuals with Down syndrome. We also are able to connect with families that we have not been able to meet up with in awhile. I love that it has the Down Syndrome Dash. I know with Ellie the amount of work she put into being able to run and jump and to be able to see her run with her peers is priceless. As well as the look of accomplishment that comes across her face when she completes it.

4. Why do you think that GiGi’s Playhouse is important to the Syracuse community?

It is a physical location where families are able to connect with other families. It is a place where they are able to learn and grow at their own pace. They have some amazing programs for all ages and we are so fortunate to have GiGi’s Playhouse right here in Syracuse. It is a great support system, for the families and the individuals. One of the best ways to help someone grow is by the support they receive.

5. Is your team planning anything unique to show your team spirit?

We usually have Team Ellie shirts ☺
