Busy Hands, Bigger Plans!

We are pretty excited to be offering a new program at the Syracuse Playhouse this week! Busy Hands, Bigger Plans is a program that will help promote the foundations of handwriting. This program is primarily a handwriting group but it should also incorporate fine motor, sensory awareness, social interaction, and language skills. The goals are….

Promote Directionality skills: Right/Left awareness

Promote success in handwriting

Peer interaction and social skill development (turn taking, sharing, and listening skills

Teaching parents fine motor techniques to use at home

Sensory and fine motor development

We are welcoming a brand new program host, please help us welcome Amie to the Playhouse family.  We will turn the mic to Amie to share a bit about herself….

“I’ve been working with children for just over 10 years, and I absolutely love it. I am working on my bachelors for inclusive special education. I wanted to come to be involved with Gigi’s because if the sense of community and the unbelievable people in the community. I wanted to be part if something so moving and so inspiring. I’m very excited to work with some amazing children and grow and learn with them.

I have designed the program to work in 15 minute increments, this way the children are able to move if they need to. Each center will work with a different skill. There will be one center that is geared toward fine motor development. This center will be using clay, glue, scissors, shaving cream or another sensory item but will still tie into the lesson for the day. A second center will be using the sentence strips or story paper. This will also have some fine motor skill development but will focus on the printing and understanding of print. Still with lots of fun involved. The third center will be another printing activity this will focus on repetition of the printing process.”

The age recommendation for Busy Hands Bigger Plans is 7-10 and there is still room to sign up. Program will be held the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10am, starting Saturday April 11th.
