Changing of the Guard at GiGi’s Syracuse

We are proud, thrilled, and excited to share that we have a new Board of Managers President at GiGi’s Playhouse Syracuse!

Please help us welcome Mary-Jo Klein as our new president.  Mary-Jo took the seat in March and has been leading us with passion and vision through this incredible season.

We are inspired by her and what she is bringing to the “table.”

Down syndrome volunteering

“I would like to start out by saying I am extremely honored and humbled to take on this new leadership role for GiGi’s Playhouse. I have volunteered in schools, Girl Scouts, and for the Syracuse Buddy Walk. For the past eleven years, I have been a special education teaching assistant for OCM BOCES.

I remember when the news announced GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center would be coming to Syracuse, NY, I  thought that would be a great place for my daughter Julia to volunteer.  She, as well as my two sons, grew up with our neighbor David Sill. It is through David that we learned about the world of Down syndrome.  As GiGi’s grew, so did the time Julia spent there with David as well as other individuals she would mentor. I became a behind the scenes supporter. When David passed away last year from Osteosarcoma, it left a void in all our lives. When I was presented the opportunity to serve the board as Secretary, I jumped at the opportunity.

I have learned so much about GiGi’s Playhouse, yet I know there is so much more out there to learn. I look forward to serving the Playhouse and the Syracuse community as the new Board President. I would like to thank Sara, Heather, and the entire Board for putting their trust in me as I hope you will all do too.” ~ Mary-Jo
