Why we celebrate on March 21st
March 21, 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day and each year individuals with Down syndrome, their families, their friends and their communities get LOUDER! We are not done yet. There is more noise to make, there is more awareness to spread and more acceptance to encourage.
Language is changing, stereotypes are being shattered but we are not done. We asked our friends on Facebook to share who they celebrate and why. Here are a few of those answers.
“Christopher, such a joy! He’s so thankful and makes me want to be more thankful too” – His mom
“Nadia taught us what fast, independent and persistent really is:) that 90% of communication happens outside the spoken words:) that you cannot ever be sooooo mad that you cannot smile when you see her and that leaving anyone behind is not an option…..” ~ Mom & Dad
“We’ll be celebrating Judah and the way he is changing our perspective for the better. He is making magic” – Mommy
On Saturday we are excited to put on our crazy socks, wear our blue and yellow and celebrate all the amazing people who have changed our lives for the better, have taught us lessons we would have missed out on without them and who show us everyday that even though the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome can bring challenges, there is still so much good and we are strong enough to take on those challenges, together!
