Down Syndrome Acceptance Month Recap + GiGi’s Playhouse Ice Cream Social
Joyful. Heartfelt. Unforgettable.

Down Syndrome Acceptance Month Recap + GiGi’s Playhouse Ice Cream Social
October was one for the books here at GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento.
Down Syndrome Acceptance Month gave us a chance to amplify our message of acceptance for all, celebrate the incredible individuals who make our community shine, and—most importantly—come together.
And wow… we sure did come together.

Our Ice Cream Social Was a Sweet Success
On October 21, families gathered at the Playhouse for a relaxed afternoon of smiles, sprinkles, and delicious scoops. Whether piled high with toppings or kept simple and classic, every bowl of ice cream seemed to taste better surrounded by good friends.

You could feel the energy from the moment you walked in—kids racing toward the toppings counter, parents catching up, and volunteers happily serving. It was the kind of day that reminds us just how special our community truly is.
Some highlights included:
• Sticky fingers and sticky smiles
• Dance breaks between bites
• New friendships forming over chocolate syrup
• Familiar faces returning—stronger, braver, and more confident than ever

Why October Matters
Down Syndrome Acceptance Month isn’t about awareness alone—it is about advocacy, inclusion, education, acceptance, and celebration. Every October, individuals with Down syndrome and their families reclaim the narrative by showing the world that joy, capability, and potential live here every day.
This year, we were honored to share My GiGi’s stories from participants and their moms—heartfelt reflections on what GiGi’s means to their families. Each story reminded us why the Playhouse matters so deeply, and we will continue sharing these beautiful moments as more are received. Please email ndeters@ndetersgigisplayhouse-org if you would like to share your story!
At GiGi’s, we believe every voice matters, every ability deserves to be recognized, and every person should be welcomed for exactly who they are.
Thank You

To all the families, volunteers, and participants who made this month unforgettable, thank you.
Your joy, enthusiasm, and support keep our Playhouse thriving and help spread our mission of acceptance for all.
Here’s to more connection, celebration, and moments that remind us what community is all about.
