Adding Confidence: 1:1 Math at GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento!

Math fun is multiplying at GiGi’s Playhouse Sacramento! We’re piloting FREE 1:1 math tutoring this summer-fun, focused, and full of confidence for individuals with Down syndrome!

What is 1:1 Math Tutoring?

Each participant is matched with a trained volunteer tutor for 8–12 weeks of personalized, purposeful, and most of all—fun math learning. Sessions are 45–60 minutes each week and include playful, multisensory activities and simple practice to take home and enjoy with family.

From number recognition to algebra, we meet every learner exactly where they are!

🌟 Why This Program Rocks: Real Benefits, Real Growth

Our math tutoring program is about so much more than numbers. It’s about building skills that open doors—in school, at home, and in life.

Here’s what our participants can gain:

  • Build a wide range of math skills – From patterns and number sense to time, money, fractions, and even algebra
  • Boost confidence and self-esteem – Because every win, big or small, deserves to be celebrated
  • Strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving – Skills that go far beyond the classroom
  • Grow independence and autonomy – From managing time to making purchases with confidence
  • Encourage inclusion in general education classrooms – Math confidence = classroom success
  • Promote active roles in school and community – We love to see our participants shine
  • Foster peer interaction – Fun games and activities help learners connect and collaborate
  • Support fine motor development – Engaging hands-on activities that support writing and life skills

Plus, we focus on helping participants feel successful and proud building not just math skills, but also confidence, independence, and a love for learning that lasts far beyond summer.

And like everything at GiGi’s, it’s 100% FREE!

💛 Why Math? Why Now?

Math is everywhere—from grocery shopping to baking to catching the bus on time. Building these skills early creates a strong foundation for everyday independence. By piloting this program right here in Sacramento, we’re empowering individuals with Down syndrome to thrive academically and personally.

We know that many children and adults with Down syndrome face unique learning challenges—and we’re here to meet those challenges with encouragement, creativity, and consistent support. Whether it’s learning how to count change at a store, or simply recognizing patterns, these skills are essential.
