Find His Voice: A Journey of Empowerment
At GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh, we’re thrilled to share the inspiring progress of one of our young clients, Bently – a bright, determined young man who has undergone an extraordinary transformation. Once quiet and selective in his speech, he is now growing into a confident communicator, all thanks to his consistent participation in our speech therapy program. His journey highlights not only the importance of personalized support but also the power of believing in every individual’s potential.
Working closely in 1:1 sessions with one of our talented graduate clinicians from North Carolina Central University, he has begun to truly find his voice. These sessions have been tailored to meet Bently’s specific needs and interests, helping him feel comfortable, supported, and excited about learning. With each passing week, he has developed a better understanding of how to use his voice with purpose. This new knowledge has empowered him to communicate more freely and effectively, and it’s been a joy to witness.
As a supervisor and mentor to these graduate students, I have the unique privilege of not only watching Bently thrive, but also seeing the professional and personal growth of our future speech-language pathologists. Our clinicians are constantly learning new intervention strategies, experimenting with creative approaches, and refining their skills to meet each client where they are. This experience is incredibly valuable for them, and the collaborative relationship between client and clinician makes every breakthrough even more meaningful.
Beyond the voice work, this young man is also making tremendous gains in articulation therapy. He now approaches each session with enthusiasm, ready to try new words and sounds. He imitates with increasing accuracy and has started building a broader vocabulary. Perhaps the most heartwarming part of the sessions is when the tables turn – he loves teaching his clinician new signs and expressions, proudly sharing his knowledge with the same enthusiasm he brings to his learning. These moments reflect the reciprocal nature of therapy at GiGi’s: we grow together, we learn together, and we celebrate everyone’s “Best of All”.
One of the clearest signs of his progress is his dedication to completing his therapy homework. He doesn’t just practice at home – he takes ownership of his learning. When he walks into his next session, he’s eager to showcase his skills and share his successes. The smile on his face as he demonstrates a new word or sign is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. His motivation, effort, and pride in his achievements are contagious. He inspires not only his clinician and our team but also the other families who are walking similar paths.
At GiGi’s Playhouse, we believe in a world where every individual can reach their full potential. Bently’s story is a testament to the difference that supportive mentorship, tailored therapy, and an encouraging environment can make. Watching him grow into a more confident communicator is a gift that reinforces the importance of our mission. We are so proud of the progress he has made and honored to be a part of his journey. We can’t wait to see what amazing things lie ahead for him-and for all the individuals we serve at GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh.
