Virtual GiGi’s Kitchen Teens/Adults (13+)

This program will meet (virtually) weekly for 6 weeks. You are RSVPing for all 6 weeks with the expectation of attendance each week.
GiGi’s Kitchen is designed to emphasize the importance of health and wellness through nutrition education, kitchen safety, food preparation, social activities, and a shared meal/snack. Under the guidance of program leaders, participants will learn about and progress through skills including measurements, food handling, knife skills, ingredient identification, palette expansion, and nutrition. Participants will be introduced to various cooking techniques. GiGi’s Kitchen program will build participants’ self-esteem and self-confidence through nutrition and wellness!
GOALS OF PROGRAM:
1. Increase knowledge of nutrition education through understanding the importance of proteins, vegetables, fruit, dairy, and fats including portion control and nutritional value which will create a healthy lifestyle.
2. Increase knowledge of kitchen safety and food preparation through food handling practices, use of utensils and equipment, knife skills, cooking techniques, and measurements including the real-life application of general math and science which will encourage creativity and healthy choices.
3. Increase self-confidence through activities that reinforce practical skills, good manners, and peer to peer interaction by socializing and bonding over meals.
4. Increase the quality of life by sharing learned skills at mealtime, creating memories, and applying nutrition and healthy wellness habits.
