GiGi’s Playhouse-Leaps and Bounds Program (3-5 yrs.)

GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix will launch the first Leaps and Bounds Program for children with Down syndrome ages 3-5 yrs. on February 20, 2016 from 10:00-11:00am.  This is a revised program designed to deliver purposeful activities, specifically for children ages three to five.  This program replaces the “Hop, Skip & Jumpers” program and includes more focused goals and activities that were created by a team of therapeutic experts, including a physical therapist, an occupational therapist and a speech language pathologist.

Leaps and Bounds is a play-based program for 3-5 year olds that focuses on the development of large and small muscle groups.  Children will participate in fun and engaging activities that require movement and interaction with their environment.  Within this 60 minute program, participants will receive at least 20 minutes of gross motor based activities and 20 minutes of fine motor activities.

Family members are a key participant in this program and will encourage their child to reach his or her Best of All throughout each session.

Leaps & Bounds supports therapeutic-based development of individuals with Down syndrome, with goals to achieve the following:

• Increase fine motor skills, including visual motor skills
• Increase gross motor skills, with a focus on general strengthening, balance and navigating obstacles.
• Increase social skills, with a focus on eye contact, imaginary play and simple interactions with peers.
• Increase language development, with a focus on following directions & communication.

All programs at GiGi’s Playhouse are free of charge.
