What are your Thanksgiving plans this year? – Written by Fatima, GiGi’s NYC Participant

I would like to share some special holidays celebrated in November this year. For example, National Housewife Day, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, National Chicken Soup for the Soul Day, National Sardines Day, and Thanksgiving Day are celebrated this month.

National Housewife Day is celebrated on Sunday, November 3rd. This is a day that honors the efforts of housewives to transform a house into a home. A lot of people celebrate the occasion in different ways such as giving the housewife a day off so she can get out of the house to do things that she enjoys like getting a manicure or a massage. You can also take over her household duties so she can enjoy herself, and you can cook her dinner or take her out to dinner at a nice restaurant. Praising the housewife’s hard work and creativity and thanking her for her contributions is a great way to express your gratitude for all she does on a daily basis.

Election Day is celebrated on Tuesday, November 5th this year, and a lot of people go voting on that day to pick the president of the United States of America. This is also my grandfather Pop Pop’s birthday.

Veteran’s Day is celebrated on Monday, November 11th this year, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion in a lot of different ways. For example, people like to attend parades, ceremonies, speeches, wreath laying events, concerts, and military displays. On this day people honor veterans for their services and their hard work for America. A lot of restaurants give veterans free meals on Veteran’s Day.

National Chicken Soup for the Soul Day is celebrated on Tuesday, November 12th this year, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion. For example, making chicken soup with a special recipe, reading the Chicken Soup for the Soul series that features true stories about ordinary people having extraordinary experiences, doing small good deeds for others, telling an inspiring story to a friend or family member, taking time to celebrate who you are and how you got there, listening to soulful music, or watching a movie with an uplifting message are some ways to commemorate this special day. This day may be celebrated by focusing on your own life and soul and by reflecting on your past, present, and future. On this day, I am planning on making homemade chicken soup for the house with halal chicken in the soup so my father can eat it too.

National Sardines Day is celebrated on Sunday, November 24th this year, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion in a lot of different ways. For example, people like to share a can or two of canned sardines with a friend. See if you prefer the mustard chili or tomato packed ones better. You can also try sardines in a salad, on crackers, mashed with dressing, grilled with olive oil, or with lemon garlic and tarragon. Another option is to add some sardines to soups and sandwiches to enhance their flavor. I am planning on making a fried chicken wrap with sardines and avocado in it for dinner on that day.

Thanksgiving is celebrated on Thursday, November 28th this year, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion in a lot of different ways. Some things people like to do on Thanksgiving include watching the grand parades like the famous Macy’s parade in New York, participating in charity drives for those in need, and of course gathering for the traditional family dinner where roasted turkey takes center stage. Some families like to watch football on TV as a way of relaxing after eating a big Thanksgiving feast. On this day I am planning on getting together with my family, my extended family, and my friends. I also plan on visiting loved ones at Saint Michael’s Cemetery.

On Thanksgiving this year I have a lot to be grateful and thankful for like the food that we have made for dinner that day and everyday, my grandparents Pop Pop and Maureen, everyone in our family including my mom Denise and dad Liaquat, my wonderful brother Harris, Uncle Sergei and Aunt Katherine, my cousins Max and Lily, their dog Rocky, my fiancé Peter Colombos and being a part of the Colombos family, getting the opportunity to know Peter’s grandmother Eleftheria Tzviavs before she passed, and for my grandmother Katherine Supon in heaven. I am also blessed and thankful to have a helper to work with me full-time at my house. Her name is Laura, and I’m also grateful for her parents who are my friends too.

I am also so thankful to be a student of The M.O.S.T. Program at Molloy University in Rockville Centre. I also want to give thanks for being a part of DreamStreet Theater. It is an honor to be a part of the program. And of course I am grateful for Gigi’s Playhouse NYC for all the fun activities, wonderful staff, and great friends I’ve made there.

Sending you lots of peace, happiness, love, and big hugs this Thanksgiving.

Please let me know what you’re most thankful for.

Love you all,
Fatima
