Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer. GiGi’s Playhouse is a volunteer-run organization and we rely on the skills and dedication of volunteers of various levels of expertise to keep our programs vibrant, educational, fun and free. Since the first Playhouse opened in 2003 GiGi’s Playhouse programs have always been free to our families. If you are interested in donating your time and talent, let us know!
“GiGiFit Adult and GiGiFit Teen"
“Fantastic Friends” Looking for volunteers to assist with planning and attending activities. Friday Friends is a social group for ages 18 and older held on the 4th Friday of each month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The location will vary depending on activity.
“Kids Club” In need of a volunteer to help monitor and assist with crafts and snacks. Kids Club is a social group for ages 8-12 years old held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to noon at GiGi’s Playhouse. Purpose of the group is for children to socialize to work together on crafts or projects and to make a snack together.
“LMNOP” (Language, Music N’ Our Peeps) guides parents and infants through basic sign language and through incorporating music and dance therapy into daily activities to stimulate the child. Recommended ages 6-36 months old. Volunteer requirement is group must be led by a licensed therapist. Program is held on monthly on the 4th Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
“Leaps and Bounds “ is a play based program that focuses on the development of large and small muscle groups. Children will participate in fun and engaging activities that require movement and interaction with their movement. Recommended ages 3 to 6 years old. Volunteer requirement is group must be led by a licensed therapist. Program is held on monthly on 1st Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
“Open Play” This program invites families and their friends to the Playhouse for playtime! Open Play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, as well as support and networking for current families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends. Shift is Friday’s from 10:00 am to noon
“Math Tutoring” Catering to children of all ages and skill levels, the GiGi’s Math curriculum helps students with school preparedness, maintain grade-level mathematics and gain important skills for independence. Recommended for ages 3 and older. All tutoring sessions are 30 minutes long located at GiGi’s Playhouse. Hours are flexible; however, most sessions times are after school. You must be 18 years or older to volunteer. This position requires a one-year commitment. There are three tutoring sessions (see below)
“Literacy Tutoring“ Tutoring begins with reading whole words, then learning the alphabet and phonics sounds. Basic skills of matching, selecting and naming are utilized in each stage of learning. Ages for participants is 3 and older. All tutoring sessions are 30 minutes long located at GiGi’s Playhouse. Hours are flexible; however most sessions times are after school. You must be 18 years or older to volunteer. This position requires a one-year commitment. There are three tutoring sessions:
“Board Members” We’re looking for talented and conscientious volunteer board members to provide strategic direction for our Playhouse. If you can contribute your time, thoughtfulness, and leadership and are interested in exploring this opportunity contact Melissa at email@example.com to find out whether this volunteer opportunity is right for you. We are seeking members with expertise in legal, education, marketing fundraising, outreach and finance. The board meets the third Monday of the month at 7:00 pm at GiGi’s Playhouse location in McHenry.
Special Event Volunteers” are needed to help throughout the year including events such as, Bunco, Fashion Show, building a float for parades and other special events.
We want each and every participant, family member, and volunteer to have the best possible experience. Therefore, all interested volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation.
