Why we run…

tera.5kFour years ago we met our beautiful, sweet Tera.  Shortly after our first meeting, we received some news that changed our lives forever; Tera has Down syndrome.  That first day was difficult as we simultaneously celebrated her birth and tried to wrap our minds around what this new information meant for her and for us as a family.  And I can say, four years later, we still don’t really know.

What we do know is that Tera brings immeasurable love, happiness, and joy to everyone around her.  Her tenacity is enviable and her love for life is inspiring.

One of the most valuable resources we were introduced to in those first few months, was Gigi’s Playhouse McHenry.  Since that first day that we walked into the playhouse when Tera was six weeks old, we have been supported, encouraged, and found a family of people who understand the successes, the trials, and the special needs of Tera and our family.

In April Tera completed her second session of literacy and we look forward to having her start in the math program.  All the services, therapies, and resources that we receive, and that all families like ours receive, are free of charge.  But they can only continue to provide those services and more with help from events like this and support from people like you.

Please help me support GiGi’s Playhouse by contributing to this great cause! Your gift will help support thousands of families who rely on GiGi’s Playhouse therapeutic and educational programs. All programs are free to families. Making a charitable donation is easy and safe: simply click the “Donate Now” button in the upper right to donate and before submitting your donation, be sure to choose the McHenry playhouse from the drop down menu.
