Speech Highlight

Meet Jason Nosbaum, age 31.  He has been participating in the Amina Grace Speech and Language Program since it first came to McHenry in April.  Jason’s mom enrolled him in the program to help him be better understand throughout the community.  Jason is very social and often calls, texts, and facetimes with friends on his cell phone.  Jason keeps busy volunteering in a book store and taking yoga classes. He enjoys meeting friends for lunch and going to the movies.   Jason independently takes the train to visit friends and takes a cab to GiGi’s Playhouse for his speech sessions.  “Jason had speech therapy when he was in school, but not since then.  I feel he is pretty competent with communication with me and family, but he could be much more understandable with people outside the family.  He has lots to say (especially about his interests) and his circle of friends could be much bigger if people understood him better” Jason’s mom tells us.  Jason works on slowing down his speech, as he often speaks quickly.  He focuses on pronouncing all of the sound in each word he says.  Speech sessions also focus on problem solving using real life situations and answering a variety of wh- questions.  Jason’s dedication and hard work during speech sessions will help him continue to expand his independence and improve interactions with others.
