Volunteer Spotlight: Shreya, literacy tutor
Shreya
Tutor since 2017
Personal Interests: This school year Shreya will be a junior at Metea Valley High School. At school, she’s a part of extracurricular orchestras within the school as well as outside the school (Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra). She is also part of the Adaptive PE/Peer Partners program, will be Secretary of Tri-M, and Secretary of the Youth Advisory Committee for Substance Abuse Prevention (YAC).
Why Shreya volunteers at GiGi’s: “I wanted to tutor at GiGi’s because the organization does such a good job of making every volunteer experience feel personal and special. Tutoring makes me feel like I can really get to know the young kids I work with and build a relationship with them. Not only do I feel like I’m able to make a difference in their lives by volunteering, but all the kids I work with are so awesome and they always make it worth it!”
The Future: This summer Shreya will be spending 3 weeks in Europe with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp’s International Youth Symphony Orchestra. She’ll be living with host families in French and German towns and will be touring and performing in churches. After that, she’ll be doing a 6 week internship at Harvard’s Beth Israel Medical Deaconess Center where she will be exposed to the hospital environment and be able to help out in a variety of different areas, such as post-anesthesia care, the NICU, and emergency room.
So proud of all your achievements Shreya! You are a true example of a strong, talented and extremely kind young lady. May God always give you strength to keep doing great things in this difficult world and always stay strong and happy!
Shreya: we are very proud to know you. You are a dedicated young woman deriving the utmost happiness in helping others. We know how talented you are in both curricular and extracurricular activities, but you always stay humble. May God give you all the strengths to continue your activities, help others and be always happy.
