Volunteer Spotlight- Akshaya
Akshaya Raghavan was recognized by Kids Matter Youth Service Awards dinner for her tutoring at GiGi’s Playhouse.
Diane, the parent of one of Akshaya’s students writes: “She has an unbelievable passion when it comes to helping students with disabilities. Last winter she developed an app to help intellectually challenged students learn math and invited students to test it out. She now works with her tutoring students through Google classroom assigning homework and checking to see how things are going. In the past year and a half I have watched my daughter blossom and become a more confident student with the kind and caring way Akshaya goes about her teaching. I now have a daughter who looks forward to going to tutoring, working hard and knowing she can do it! Akshaya never fails to praise any student for any work they do because everything is viewed as an accomplishement. I feel Akshaya has a very good understanding of people with disabilities. I have had the honor of watching Akshaya with her brother who also has Down syndrome. She could have walked away from helping others, but instead she chose to help others in need.”
