Literacy Tutoring at Fox Valley

Winter Literacy at Fox Valley

We are a little over half way through our literacy winter tutoring sessions and are enjoying every minute of them! We have so much fun reading, writing and laughing with our tutors and students. Although tutoring sessions can be great fun, they also include a great amount of work. We are so proud of all of our students and everything they have accomplished so far. Here is a few stories of our student’s midterm progress!

Cece and Rida:

Cece comes to us as a new student at Fox Valley! Cece is one of our adult students and she is working with one of our seasoned tutors Rida. She has shown tremendous growth over the past few sessions. Rida tells us that “Cece mastered reading “on” and “the” and can recognize these words in all types of stories! She has also mastered the sounds of letters m, n, and w” this is thanks to our new curriculum with Raising Robust Readers. We are so happy that Cece comes to Fox Valley and learns with us every week! At registration her sister was worried that her age would be a factor in her ability to be involved with tutoring, however here at GiGi’s Playhouse, we work with students of all ages! We feel that learning is a life long skill and we are always excited when a new member joins our family.

Laura and Melissa:

Laura recently aged out of her school program and has been continuing on with her studies here at GiGi’s Fox Valley. Laura is a sweet girl who is very determined to improve her handwriting and reading skills. Tutor Melissa says, “Laura always brings a smile to my face! She has such a great attitude about learning and she makes me excited to come in each week and work towards our goals”! Laura’s positive attitude exemplifies what it means to be living a Generation G lifestyle. At Fox Valley we meet the student where they are. We are always working toward our Best of All and pushing ourselves a little harder each time. Laura has been practicing writing her name for a few weeks now and has accomplished writing it with not just one but both of her hands! We are amazed at your progress Laura.

Timothy and Makayla:

Timothy and Makayla have just started working together this past session and got off on a great foot! Makayla says, “Timothy and I have been working really well together the past few weeks! Timothy comes into the playhouse and is excited to learn. We go into the tutor room and we go over all of the letters of the alphabet. Timothy also loves his family book and is able to match the names to the pictures. Mom likes to sit in on the sessions, and Timothy is improving each week and I am excited to see how well he does next week.” It is so great to have such involved parents at the playhouse. We love how our tutoring sessions can be a way for the whole family to connect over learning! At GiGi’s Playhouse our tutoring sessions are a way for parents to ask questions and learn more about our new curriculum. Especially with our younger students, parents can learn activities to continue practice at home!

Be on the lookout for Spring 2018 tutor registration going live in March! More information to come in our March Newsletter. As always feel free to contact us with any questions.
