CeCe and her sister Connie are definitely #strongertogether.  CeCe started literacy tutoring in January of 2018 at the age of 49.  CeCe could write and read her own name and a large part of the alphabet, but had dreams of reading more.  With hard work from CeCe, her sister Connie, and her tutors CeCe is now proud to be reading books at level B!!!!

“For CeCe to be reading these books from cover to cover at the age of 49 for the first time is wonderful.  You can see the pride in her when she reads,” states her sister Connie.  When asked how she likes tutoring CeCe says, “I like tutoring, I read and spell.  It’s fun”.
Literacy tutoring is fun and everyone is able to make purposeful progression, regardless of their age!  The key to that success is repetition, repetition, repetition, and celebrating those #best of all moments.
“I feel honored to be on this journey with CeCe,” states Connie.  “There are times when juggling my schedule between practicing her reading a couple of times a day, getting her to tutoring and her workshop and running my company, but it is well worth the effort.”
Literacy tutoring does take effort on the part of the participant, tutor, and caregivers.  It is not only the time that you put in with the tutor, but the time between the sessions where the real progress happens.  “What worked for us,” states Connie, “is doing about 15-20 minutes at a time, 2-3 times A DAY.  When we are driving around in the car, sometimes we bring the books and she [CeCe] reads them to me.  I [Connie] know the books by heart, so I don’t have to take my eyes off the road to help if she needs it”.  Thank goodness you are being safe Connie!!!
“I am very thankful to both GiGi’s Playhouse and all the volunteers who give their time and energy to people with special needs,” says Connie, “GiGi’s Playhouse is changing one life at a time and for that my family is truly grateful”.
