Best of All
In the picture is Cristian who is now a 7th grader. Cristian’s parents had received a letter from the school stating that his school was changing. Transitioning for Cristian is a difficult process and his parents were worried. A week before his IEP meeting, the parents received his goals and could see that they were really pushing him academically. They also noticed that Cristian was listed as a participant and his team wanted him there.
Now, not only does Cristian work hard academically, he also works in the school’s coffee shop Sharkbuck’s, he plays on the soccer and basketball team, goes to after school activities, and will be part of the tech team for the upcoming variety show at school. The parents say that “If you would have told me years ago that my son could give a presentation and advocate for himself at school and be so involved in his school community, I wouldn’t have been so sure”. Cristian can now advocate for himself. His team fights for him, supports him and creates opportunities for him and that is because they believe in him and see his potential.
“Best of All” is a daily challenge to do a little better than you did the day before and it is always celebrated. Standing one second longer, reading just one more word, learning just one new number, taking one more step are all examples of displaying the Best of All. It is a challenge here at GiGi’s Fox Valley we want to take.
