Volunteer Spotlight: Ms. Emily and the Steps Dancers (program leader for Dance @ Steps)

Ms. Emily is a recent graduate of North Central College and has been volunteering as a program leader for GiGi’s Playhouse Fox Valley for the last 5 years.

Ms. Emily and her dancers have not skipped a beat with the shelter-in-place.  They were the first to step up to begin virtual programming on Sunday mornings, and even won a dance competition!!!

CONGRATULATIONS “US” on receiving 2ND RUNNER-UP out of the entire Teen/Senior WORLDWIDE Break the Floor Prod Live Competition!!! It is a HUGE honor to be recognized among so many inspiring studios across the globe!

Not only does Ms. Emily volunteer, but she also encourages her teen dancers to volunteer as buddy dancers.  Each dancer is partnered with a GiGi’s participant through the fall and spring sessions and perform in a holiday and spring concert.

When asked what she loves about volunteering, dancer Kylie says: “I have been so fortunate to volunteer with Dance at GiGi’s and it is truly the highlight of my week.  All of the kids come with the brightest smiles and I wish everyone could see the joy that they bring into dance class despite anything going on on outside.  My favorite moments are when we all get to perform.  Everyone works so super hard all year and to see them working that stage and enjoying themselves so much is really rewarding!”

Thank you Ms. Emily, and congratulations on your upcoming graduation from NCC! Thank you Steps Dancers, and congratulations to the graduating seniors and placing at your competition.  We are so proud of all of you and look forward to “seeing” you virtually May 17th!
