Empowering Littles, Inspiring All – Trevor’s Best of All story

Trevor Dunn signed in for his first Literacy tutoring session back in January of 2020 and has been an active member of our GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit family ever since! We wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate a Best of All as Trevor really shines as a co-leader for our LMNOP (Language, Music, ‘N Our Peeps) program. He uses skills learned from attending so many programs to help families sign in on the iPad, read books, sing songs, and teach new signs to the participants throughout the LMNOP program. Below is a photo of Trevor with a LMNOP participant, Olivia.

Lindsay, mother of Olivia said, “As a parent of a toddler with Down Syndrome, it is inspirational to see a young adult with Down Syndrome leading LMNOP. Seeing my daughter look up to and learn from Trevor is such a joy and delight, and it makes me even more excited about her future!”

We sent Trevor some questions so we could get to know him and his experience with GiGi’s better, and here’s what he had to say:

What Programs have you attended at GiGi’s Playhouse as a participant?

Literacy and Math tutoring, GiGi Drama Troupe, GiGiFIT, GiGi Teen Kitchen, Back to School Dance with my sweetheart, GiGi Fitness Acceptance Challenge, Lucky Have a Few Keynote Speaker, GiGi Halloween Dances, Valentine’s Art Event with my sweetie.

What do you like about being at the Detroit Playhouse?

I feel like a happier, better, kinder person. I feel amazing and happy when I am there. I feel better about myself, and I feel happy with all the people around me.

What is your favorite part about LMNOP?

Reading with the babies, playing with them, hang out with them, and I like to make them laugh and smile.

Is there anything at the Playhouse you haven’t done and want to do?

I want to be a tik Tok dancer with my bro Adam, so I would like to participate in GiGi Dance Adult. Also, Music Makers Adult, Art Explosion Adult, and GiGi Prep seems like fun.

What is something you want other volunteers, or someone thinking about volunteering, to know?

It is very exciting to be a volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse. There are great people with a lot of love and kindness to meet when you are there.

Thank you, Trevor for taking the time to answer our questions and volunteer for our LMNOP program!
