We are Hiring!

We have an important announcement to share with our Down syndrome community…

Kimberly Lyon, M.A. CCC-SLP

After two years of dedicated service, Kim Lyon, who supervised our Amina Grace Speech & Language Program has resigned. She had to make the difficult decision to leave for an opportunity that’s a better fit for her family. We are immensely grateful to Kim for the brilliance, compassion, creativity, brightness, and calm she brought to our Playhouse. She will be greatly missed.

As a result of this news, we are now looking for a new ASHA Certified licensed Speech and Language Pathologist to supervise Wayne State graduate students working with our participants of varying ages. Candidates must have the ASHA required 2-hour CEU supervision credentials and be eligible to supervise students. Wayne State can provide no-cost resources for this requirement, if needed.

This position is technically hired by both GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit and Wayne State University, and compensated separately by each organization. Below is the job description from each group:

GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit

Days: Mondays and Wednesdays, for roughly 11-12 weeks, and 3 sessions a year. The start and end weeks will align with the WSU school calendar.

Times: The first speech session starts at 2pm and the last one ends at 6:45pm. You may need to be at the Playhouse outside of those hours to meet additional requirements by Wayne State.

The supervising SLP will work closely with GiGi’s Programs’ Coordinator and Site Manager to ensure the Amina Grace Speech & Language program meets GiGi’s standards for data recording, attendance, and safety protocols.

Wayne State University

The supervisor will work with a representative from the university to train on the completion of paperwork, reports, grading, and meetings. Approximately 10 hours/week will be dedicated to these tasks. The supervisor will facilitate a weekly meeting with the graduate students for about an hour. Wayne State will provide compensation for this time.

Potential Candidates will interview with a representative of GiGi’s Playhouse Detroit and Wayne State University. Training and initial support will be provided by the previous SLP supervisor and/or WSU’s Clinic Director, and GiGi’s Programs’ Coordinator. Further details about both programs will be discussed during the interview, training, and orientation.

We plan to fill this position immediately. To apply, email resume and cover letter to ktynes@gigisplayhouse.org.

Please share this opportunity with your network! We are confident our community knows the right person for this important role in our Playhouse!
