Program Spotlight: Playhouse Pals

This year we plan to feature one of our programs each month on the blog. We hope this helps you understand the background and focus of our various programs. February we are focusing on one of our school age programs, Playhouse Pals for 4-7 year olds.

Playhouse Pals!

What does it mean to be a pal? Right away the words, friend, supportive, kind, and fun come to mind. At Playhouse Pals we work on skills such as fine and gross motor, language development and social skills. At the ages of 4-7 for someone with Down syndrome things like using scissors, controlling how and where you kick a ball, playing a game with someone else, and explaining how you feel are all new and developing skills. When you’re learning these new skills it’s helpful to have someone who is: friendly, supportive, kind, and fun to help you navigate through the learning curves.

In Playhouse Pals we have an engaging and safe environment for our participants to make mistakes, learn, and grow. They observe each other and support each other learning important social skills. This program is a great supplement to what they’re being exposed to in school every day. Through the use of stories, games, arts and crafts, songs, and other fun tasks participants build strong foundations for skills they will use for the rest of their lives.

Now do you want to jump in?

And as always, if you’d like to join us in changing the way the world views Down syndrome, we are always in need of volunteers!  Simply register here and we will get in touch!
