Free Seminar on Working With Young Adults With Down Syndrome.

Lauren Duffy: The Presenter

Lauren Duffy is an occupational therapy student at UIC, currently in her 2nd year. She co-leads the TeenTastic program at GiGi’s and recently presented information at the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association conference about the importance of promoting self-determination when working with young adults with Down syndrome. She is excited to share tips on how you can help promote each students’ success at GiGi’s and make an even bigger impact on their lives!

Topics she intends to cover:

  • How to engage individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a way that promotes their problem solving, self-efficacy, autonomy, and confidence.
  • Using age appropriate materials/talking to individuals in a way that respects their age.

Little things, even just the way we word something, can go a long way! She will also be around to answer questions about specific situations you’ve encountered at the playhouse.
