Good Morning, GiGi’s Chicago Families.

Welcome to the Summer Session! The renovations are complete (though there’s still some organizing to do), and we’re excited to begin our programming.

Jade tutorAlong those lines, we thought it might be good to talk a little about our literacy program. With all of the great things going on around the Playhouse, we sometimes forget how fantastic this program is. We’ve been running the literacy program out of Chicago for four years now (making sure it wasn’t interrupted during and after our move) and it’s still the cornerstone of our Playhouse. Even as we add more programs (coming this fall: math and occupational therapy), literacy will still be going strong.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our literacy coordinators Debby Hanrahan and Rachel Burke, our tutor trainer Jud Nudelman and all of the volunteer tutors who come in every week and work with our students. We truly couldn’t have done it without their efforts.

Thank you!

Coming Soon: Technology Seminar

There truly is an app for everything. And when it comes to developmental opportunities, there are so many apps, it’s hard to know where to start.

Join us on July 11 as we partner with the Belle Center of Chicago for a presentation about using an iPad, iPhone or iTouch for special education, speech and other therapeutic applications, led by Assistive Technology blogger (and Morton Grove special educator) Patrick Black.

Bring your devices and get ready to walk out the door with a list of apps to keep your child occupied over the summer and ready for the next school year. Space is limited. RSVP via e-mail to chicago@gigisplayhouse.org.
