Thanks To Our Young Ambassadors!

We’re always happy when people get involved in the Playhouse, but we’re especially inspired when that involvement comes from teens and pre-teens.

In addition to our ongoing partnership with the Girl Scouts for our Fine Motor Skills classes,  a group of 7th graders from Washburne Middle School in Winnetka, IL, raised $346 in a bake sale to benefit the Playhouse. (One of their class members has Down syndrome). 
In a similar vein, a 6th grader from John L. Marsh elementary school, Nadia Estrada, has helped direct her school’s interest in GiGi’s as an organization to learn more about (and has worked to get her fellow students to stop using the “R” word).

And in March, Cara Culbert, a senior from Chicago Waldorf High School will helps us with a three-week internship as part of her senior project about the care and treatment of the developmentally disabled from the 1800s until now.  

The work these young Ambassadors have been doing on our behalf is both humbling and motivating. We truly appreciate the way they are changing attitudes not only among their peers, but of an entire generation.
