Volunteer Spotlight: Claire

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am currently working towards my master’s degree in Occupational Therapy at Walsh University. I am the Community Service Chair for the Student Occupational Therapy Association. I previously lived in Cleveland and volunteered with a variety of programs at GiGi’s Playhouse Cleveland. I currently tutor 2 students virtually at that location! I’m from Warren, Ohio and currently live there with my grandparents and my dog Edna.

How did you learn about GiGi’s and what do you do at the Playhouse?

I learned about GiGi’s Playhouse through a coworker when I worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers. She told me about all of the great opportunities GiGi’s offers to participants, and the friendships that GiGi’s Playhouse creates and I knew I had to get involved! GiGi’s is truly a magical organization and I am so privileged to be one of the program leaders for Destination Discovery!

We want to get to know you, what are some of your favorites? (food, color, season, activity, etc.)

  • Favorite colors: yellow and pink
  • Favorite food: sushi
  • Favorite season: spring
  • Favorite activities: volunteering, crafting, swimming, and competing with the other Destination Discovery leaders in fitness challenges

What is your favorite experience you have had at the Playhouse?

My favorite experience at GiGi’s Playhouse has been being able to learn and grow with all of the participants! I learn something new every time I come to the Playhouse. I love that I am able to form amazing memories that will last a lifetime at GiGi’s! My favorite memory so far has been making cards for Blake Shelton with Hannah and making all kinds of crafts with the participants at Destination Discovery!

Destination Discovery supports the development of fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills and language through purposeful play and peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting. This program also brings families together to share experiences and build relationships. Destination Discovery is recommended for all ages.
