Emily, Emma, Hayley, John, Laila, and Michael are excited to launch the third GiGi U class! GiGi’s Career Development Programs are designed to empower adults with Down syndrome through progressive learning initiatives. Our innovative educational programs focus on goal development, small group skills, health and wellness, career skills, empowerment, and community engagement.
GiGi U
GiGi U will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, each week the participants will focus on honing their money skills, communication skills, kitchen skills, career skills, and fitness, all guided by our dedicated team of volunteers! As part of our program, we will explore businesses owned by individuals with Down syndrome and will have some of our own speak to our class. Stay tuned for what we learn!
We have several exciting activities planned, including a Self-advocacy Letter Writing workshop on 2/19, participating in Packet Delivery Day at the Maryland State House on 3/10 before World Down Syndrome Day, visit to Discoveries: The Library at the Mall & Chick-fil-A at the Mall to learn job roles and career resources provided by the Library, marching in the Annapolis St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and Interview Day with local businesses on 4/16.
Social Skills – Adults 18+
We will be kicking off a seven-week Social Skills group on Wednesday, February 18, at 4:15 pm – 5:05 pm. Plan to stay for LaBlast from 5:15-6:00! The session will end on April 1st. Please make every effort to attend at least 5 out of 7 classes. Each week builds on the skills learned in the previous class. All those 18+ are welcome to register. Registration is now OPEN.
The group will concentrate on social skills necessary for functioning within the community. We will work on conversation starters, perspective-taking, and teamwork/problem-solving. To strengthen social interaction and practice these skills, we will include games and other activities. The group will be facilitated by Mary Lee and Lauren Johnson, Speech Language Pathologists.
