Volunteer Spotlight: Ruby – Speech Language Pathologist

Ruby and her sidekick Loki

Ruby has been volunteering in the LMNOP Program since GiGi’s opened in 2018. She graduated from UW Madison with her MS in speech language pathology and currently works as an SLP in the assistive technology clinic at HSC Pediatric Center in Lanham focusing on augmentative and alternative communication. One of her first patients as graduate student was a little boy with Down syndrome learning to use a communication device, which had a huge impact on what she’s chosen to specialize in as an SLP.

Ruby learned about GiGi’s after volunteering for the Miss Amazing pageant in Illinois, and loved being able to work with a variety of individuals on life skills, playing with the little ones, and helping to lead groups as she began her career. She was excited to see that a GiGi’s was opening in Maryland when moving to the area a few years ago, so that she could continue volunteering with such an amazing organization.

Language Music N’ Our Peeps (LMNOP) is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication while using music and language-based activities. Recommended for ages birth to 36 months. Visit our calendar for program dates, times and to RSVP for the virtual program link.

Thank you for your wonderful spirit and support Ruby! See you in LMNOP this Fall!
