When Best of All Shines

Tim has just turned 34, and has worn glasses for most of his life.  We’d just said Tim needed new glasses when he brought them to me with broken frames.  I took him to visit our family eye doctor. I told him he would have to use a picture-style eye chart they use for little kids, because it is the only chart I have ever seen Tim use.  We get into the room and the doctor starts with that huge “E”.  Tim doesn’t answer right away and the doctor starts to switch the chart to pictures when Tim blurts out, “E”.   Okay, THAT’s NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!  The Doctor keeps going and with the exception of F and C (Doc says MANY people mix them up with other letters) he identified EVERY letter!  I was stunned! For the first time in his life, Tim took the eye test with the same eye chart every other person uses!

This didn’t happen by accident.  Tim used the letter eye chart only because of the hard work and persistence of Mr. Mark S., who comes to GiGi’s Playhouse almost every weekend to work with Tim on Reading and Math skills.  Mark is building back what Tim learned in school–he is recognizing words in the community, and we are see improvement every day.  And Mark wouldn’t be in Tim’s life if not for GiGi’s Playhouse, and their AMAZING literacy program!
