GiGi’s, Friends, Connect, and Family

Each month, we host a family group on the first Saturday at 10:00 am. All families are welcome, but we typically welcome families with children under the age of 6. The program is facilitated by two experienced program leaders who encourage discussions, sharing of experiences, and networking while high school or middle school volunteers play and engage with their children. This program is very popular with 15 or more families in attendance. Recently we have welcomed families that have just received a diagnosis to families with children up to the age of 8. To all the families that join us – We are glad you have found us early in your journey and we promise to make a lifetime commitment to you and your child.

Sabina, mom to Ana aged 6, is a regular attendee at this program and many more that we offer. Sabina has a website and just before our GiGIFIT Acceptance Challenge Event, she published a blog to engage her readers to support her friend, who she met at our Playhouse, to raise funds for the Playhouse.

Sabina starts her blog by stating “Many of you may know (or not know) that I have a beautiful daughter with Down syndrome. Her name’s Ana, she’s 6 and she’s just like any typical kid who loves to play, draw, color, face paint, play music, read books, go to the gym, hang with her friends, and yes, on occasion, drive her mama nuts – especially when she turns the tv off in the middle of a really good show, or when I’m on my laptop or phone, or cooking. That’s when she decides she needs the most attention. That’s kids for you!”

Sabina continues to discuss how lucky she is to have access to GiGi’s Playhouse Westchester – “We’re very fortunate that we live in Ardsley and close to GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Achievement Center for parents and children alike. We attend some really fun activities throughout the year and every month, we go to a parent’s group, a safe space, where I can meet and chat with other Moms like me who are all dealing with the same issues related to having a child with the Trisomy 21 diagnosis. These moms and dads have become close friends, confidants, and family.

Sabina invites all new families to join her at the Playhouse every month. “I’d be happy to meet with you and introduce you personally to our wonderful group of parents and staff.”

Join Sabina and other families on Saturday, June 3rd at 10:00 am. The Family group meets at 10 am, followed by a Q&A session with a representative from Billy Footwear. At noon, you are welcome to join us for our first Family Outreach Committee – come along to discover how you can become involved, and share thoughts and ideas! Sabina and the other members of the Family Engagement Committee look forward to seeing you all!
