Learning at home
Are you waiting for the schools to initiate remote learning? Here are some activities that are fun and purposeful.
Messy Play
- Sensory bin using shaving foam, maybe best for outside.
- Cornstarch and water – again best outside, action figures or cars could be placed in this mixture.
- Make slime, everyone loves slime! Add food coloring or glitter or googly eyes to make it fun!
-
- Basic fluffy slime recipe (without Borax)
-
-
- Put 1/2 cup shampoo and 1/4 cup of cornstarch in a bowl. Mix well. Add 3 drops of food coloring (optional). Add 1 tablespoon of water and stir. Slowly add 5 more tablespoons of water, stirring well after each one. Knead the slime for around 5 minutes.

Other ideas
- Scavenger hunts around the garden now the weather is becoming warm or in the house, with a prize at the end.
- Make a lego/duplo village
- Dress up in a variety of outfits and have a photo shoot
- Put on a puppet show
- Bowling – use plastic bottles weighted down with rice/water – whatever you can spare – place questions or letters or sums under each bottle. When that bottle is knocked down, they need to answer the question, give you an object that begins with sound, answer the sum etc. This can be adapted to your child’s ability.
- Build a fort
- Inside obstacle course (in, on, over, under using household furniture and objects – using painters tape to highlight the route) – we would love to see photos and videos! Please tag us on social media
Games
- Play Simon Says, Bingo, I spy, Charades, Keep the balloon up – how long can you manage?
- Play every game you have in the house!
Educational but fun, some ideas for older kids!
- Learn about a new animal or country each day and make a scrapbook with your new found knowledge
- Create a Covid-19 playlist – covering all genres and decades!
- Time capsule
- Daily news review
- Family Journal/Blog, which could be added to the time capsule. This could be done in many ways, make video entries, drawings etc
Our next Blog, will be focused on GiGi’s Kitchen and the theme will be Mexico.
