Exploring Resources in Wausau: My Visit to Learning Grove ABA LLC

As a parent and a board member of GiGi’s Playhouse, I’m always seeking out resources that can support not only my own child but also the families we serve in the Wausau community. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Learning Grove ABA LLC, and I want to share my experience—both as Henry’s mom and as an advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

My son Henry has a dual diagnosis of Down syndrome and autism, and like many parents, I’ve been on a journey to find the right therapeutic support for his unique needs. Before even stepping through the doors at Learning Grove, I had a great first impression during the phone intake with Ian, who was kind, patient, and thorough. His professionalism helped me feel comfortable from the start. Then, when I arrived for the in-person tour, I was warmly welcomed by Gabby, who walked me through the space with so much passion and care. Gabby and Ian are a dynamic husband-and-wife team, and it’s clear that Learning Grove is a labor of love for them.

The facility itself is absolutely beautiful. Each room is thoughtfully painted and purposefully designed, creating an inviting and nurturing environment. From quiet learning areas to spaces for active play and engagement, every detail is intentional and child-centered. You can tell they’ve put a lot of thought into how the space can support a wide range of developmental needs.

What really stood out to me was how flexible and family-focused their approach is. At Learning Grove, it’s not just a drop-off service. They truly work with you to create a schedule and plan that fits your child’s unique needs—and your family’s life. As a mom of a child with both Down syndrome and autism, that kind of collaboration means the world. It’s clear they’re committed to making therapy a partnership, not a prescription.

Gabby made me feel instantly at ease during the tour. I appreciated how she explained the purpose of each room and how they tailor their ABA therapy to the individual—not just the diagnosis. I was especially encouraged by their openness to supporting children with a dual diagnosis, and their understanding that therapy must be person-centered, strengths-based, and responsive to each child’s developmental journey.

At Learning Grove, everything they do is guided by their belief that every child can grow given the right support. Their team provides individualized, evidence-based services grounded in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), all within a safe and nurturing environment. They focus on building skills that promote success not just in therapy, but in home and community life. And they understand the importance of family collaboration, working closely with caregivers to empower children to lead fulfilling lives.

Their approach blends positive reinforcementchild-led learning, and the power of play—allowing kids to take an active role in their own development. By honoring each child’s pace, interests, and abilities, Learning Grove fosters confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.

One final detail I appreciated was the newly installed fence in the outdoor area. It adds a wonderful layer of safety and peace of mind for families—proof of their dedication to every aspect of a child’s experience.

I left Learning Grove feeling encouraged, informed, and hopeful. If you’re looking for a therapy center that values compassion as much as clinical excellence, Learning Grove ABA LLC is a place that truly stands out in Wausau.
