Illuminating Pathways to a Brighter, More Inclusive Future

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many aspects of our lives were upended. But amidst the challenges, opportunities for connection and growth emerged in unexpected places. For Cindy Marie, this opportunity came in the form of GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse.

When the pandemic closed physical locations, Cindy Marie found herself eager to continue supporting the community virtually. She stepped into a role where she led and supported various group programs, bridging the gap caused by the closures. Witnessing the impact of virtual engagement on families, both regular attendees and newcomers seeking connection during challenging times, fueled her passion further. With over four decades of teaching experience, Cindy Marie felt compelled to extend support beyond her local Phoenix Playhouse, leading her to join the Virtual Playhouse.

Within the Virtual Playhouse, Cindy Marie found her niche in the Literacy and Math Tutoring Program. Her responsibilities involve meticulously pairing tutors and participants based on interviews with both parties and creating conducive virtual environments for their sessions. These sessions aren’t just about academic growth; they’re about fostering mentorship, collaboration, and support to ensure every participant achieves their “Best of All.”

Among the countless heartwarming moments, one stands out vividly. A mother’s skepticism turned to tears of joy as her 35-year-old son who is non-verbal read the word “Mom” for the first time during a tutoring session. Witnessing such breakthroughs reinforces the transformative power of education and connection. Another participant, Taylor, experienced her “Best of All” moment when she confidently ordered from a menu and handled the bill independently, showcasing the tangible impact of Cindy Marie’s tutoring efforts.

Reflecting on her journey, Cindy Marie wholeheartedly recommends volunteering as a tutor. Whether it’s nurturing literacy or numeracy skills, the impact goes far beyond academics. It’s about empowering individuals to navigate the world with confidence and independence. “You work one-on-one with a student and help them increase their Literacy or Math skills which will impact their lives in ways you’ll never know. The connections you make during that hour each week that will change your life forever. You will receive more than you feel you give to them.”

Every day with GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse is a reminder of the incredible potential within each individual, regardless of challenges they may face. As we continue to navigate uncertainties, the power of virtual engagement and education remains steadfast. Together, through tutoring and support, we’re not just changing lives; we’re illuminating pathways to a brighter, more inclusive future. Join Cindy Marie and the GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse community and experience the joy of giving your “Best of All” to those who need it most.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation to Cindy Marie for her dedication and selfless contributions to GiGi’s Virtual Playhouse. Without her, our virtual tutoring program wouldn’t be possible. Cindy Marie’s unwavering commitment to excellence and compassion perfectly aligns with our mission. At GiGi’s, we envision a world where individuals with Down syndrome are embraced and accepted within their families, schools, and communities. Cindy Marie’s dedication shows her belief in this vision as she tirelessly works to empower and uplift those we serve. Thank you, Cindy Marie, for your invaluable role as our Virtual Literacy and Math Manager and continuously giving your “Best of All!”
