National Down Syndrome Congress Conference in Texas!

Every year the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) hosts a convention, bringing people from across the country together to meet other friends, and to interact with one another. There’s dancing, learning, and more! Many people from GiGi’s Sacramento attended the conference this year and had a great time! We sat down with Mia and Karen Siino, & Mia Cohen to find out more.

Mia Siino & Mia Cohen

What was your favorite part of the conference?

Mia Siino- I love meeting new friends and especially the dance!

Mia Cohen- It was the first Young Adult Conference I attended!

Karen Siino- My favorite part was walking around the Exhibit Hall, meeting all the wonderful exhibitors, and learning about new resources. Equally enjoyable are the Friday and Saturday night dances where everyone gets to let loose and show their best dance moves.

What was your favorite session?

Mia Siino- My favorite session was the theater one; we were doing improv like making different motions and pretending to sneeze. We also did interviews pretending to talk to the camera about yourself.

Mia Cohen- My favorite part of the conference was the painting session, that was really fun!

Karen- My favorite session was called “Brain Train” focusing on actions to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Brian Skotko is such an engaging speaker with a wealth of knowledge and a true love for our DS community.

What was your favorite part of the kickoff party?

Mia Siino- Karaoke! There was lots of singing, jumping up & down, and going on the stage to be back up dancers for others singing.

Mia Cohen- The dancing! That was really fun!

Karen- My favorite part of kickoff was watching all the fantastic performers singing karaoke on stage.
