Immersed in Volunteering

Being a volunteer often means being in the background, just waiting until you are needed. Well, we absolutely needed our dedicated volunteers to make our 2024 Immersion Week possible! Our amazing participants work so hard throughout the session, so to end the summer off with some fun we had a full week of activities and field trips, and there is no way we could have pulled off the “coordinated chaos” without our volunteers.

We had about 10 certified volunteers, while many other parents decided to stay and take part in the fun, as well. Whenever we leave the Playhouse to travel off-site for field trips, it is necessary to maintain an increased level of awareness and vigilance that always dovetails into an elevated level of stress for staff.  The calm, cool demeanor and “johnny on the spot” attitude of our volunteers helped to ease that stress quotient and allowed everything to come off without a hitch. Even though they were working behind the scenes, our volunteers were instrumental in making sure everything ran smoothly.

Our volunteers have an unwavering sense of dedication, and a willingness to hold the spotlight to let our participants shine. Their efforts create the perfect stage for participants to be front and center. Sometimes volunteerism can go unnoticed, as their supporting roles are working behind the participants as main characters. Nonetheless, we acknowledge their selfless contributions to making our 2024 Immersion Week seamless and enriching for all participants. They provide essential support to us in helping individuals with Down syndrome reach their best of all, and we are truly grateful to have such incredible people standing by us.
