GiGi’s Community Partnerships Fuel the Playhouse!

The North Park Fire Protection District recently approached the Rockford Playhouse with an awesome idea to take a trip to the fire station for lunch, but this was not your average field trip. Instead, our GiGi U students got to ride to and from the station in the fire engines! The engines, ambulances, and other official vehicles filled our parking lot, and our students jumped on board for a once-in-a-lifetime ride. We even got to run the sirens, telling the whole community that GiGi’s was in the house… the firehouse, that is!

We ate some great food expertly grilled by Deputy Chief Andy, got up and moving with a pick-up game of basketball, and got to take a tour of the whole station. Throughout the entire experience, the broad smiles and excitement never left our students’ faces, and that enthusiasm was given right back to them by each of the dedicated firefighters that made this such a special day. It is community engagement like this that makes GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford such a unique and exciting environment for our participants to learn, grow, and thrive. Thank you so much to the North Park Fire Protection District for taking the initiative to plan this trip for the Playhouse. We can’t wait to see you again!
