We are Generation G

Generation G: A conscious decision to be better every day.

In the last 14 years, GiGi’s Playhouse has made significant progress and impact in supporting individuals with Down syndrome, but we have only scratched the surface. Still, new parents are not receiving the positive encouragement they need from medical professionals upon receiving a diagnosis. Students with Down syndrome still experience unfounded discrimination at school and on social media. Qualified adults with Down syndrome still can’t access meaningful jobs. Dedicated locations, FREE purposeful programs, and positive support do not guarantee long-term success. There is still so much more to do. Without more actions to create lasting acceptance, opportunities for present and future generations will falter. Our kids never get to take a break from their diagnosis. Therefore, we will not stop fighting for them.

Our plan is called Generation G.

Both a movement and a daily mindset, the heart and soul of Generation G is all about HELPING PEOPLE every day. People who commit to Generation G are taking actions to be better:

Be Accepting.

Be Generous.

Be Kind.

Acceptance is a fundamental dignity for all people, regardless of ability. Acceptance is more than an act of charity, it is truly generosity “in action”. Acceptance is the very heart and the very best of humanity.

Challenge Yourself.

Generation G is heroic and challenges the status quo by stepping outside of comfort zones. Generation G always stands up for others, and never sees differences as weaknesses. Generation G doesn’t allow people to use words that are offensive, like the R-word. Generation G is committing to help in whatever way possible.

People committed to Generation will assuredly help individuals with Down syndrome and their families. These people may be new volunteers who will enjoy the immense fulfillment of tutoring a child in literacy or math. It may be a new business who creates new opportunities for people of all abilities through event partnerships. And Generation G may help a child, teenager or young adult who does not fully understand a diagnosis such as Down syndrome, and takes for granted their own health and acceptance by others. Generation G can teach them a better way.

Generation G is about today AND tomorrow.

Generation G began with a promise to help – one child, one diagnosis and one community at time. Yet, Generation G is so much more than “per person”. It is really all about PERCEPTION. Acceptance takes time to build, and Generation G serves as a bridge to foster acceptance for today’s AND tomorrow’s generations. Many people empowered by Generation G will be individuals with Down syndrome and families. Others may be new volunteers who will enjoy tutoring one of our children. It may be a new corporate partner who benefits from innovative marketing and reputation boosts. And Generation G may help a child, teenager or young adult who does not understand Down syndrome, takes for granted their own health and acceptance, and ignorantly uses discriminatory language like the R-word. Generation G can teach them a better way.

And of course, Generation G will always support the next fearful parent who receives a diagnosis, prenatally or at birth, and asks themselves, “Now what?” The answers to that question are “Congratulations on the birth of your baby!” and “Welcome to Generation G!”

Your pledge is a daily reminder to always act with acceptance and generosity
