A Gentle Start at GiGi’s: Welcoming Our Newest Little Learners
As many of our long-time “core littles” head off to school, we’re opening our doors to a brand-new generation of families at GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh! To help new parents and babies begin their journey with us, we’re thrilled to introduce A Gentle Start at GiGi’s — a monthly group designed specifically for infants ages 0–12 months and their caregivers.
This new program offers a calm, welcoming space for parents to connect, learn, and grow alongside their babies. It’s more than just a class — it’s a chance to build relationships, gain support from other families, and discover how early play, music, and movement can make a lasting impact on your baby’s development.
Our first session, held on October 25th, was a huge success! We had the joy of welcoming three brand-new babies to the Playhouse, and we’re so excited to see them (and hopefully many more) continue on this journey. The session was led by two of our dedicated volunteers — Susan, who regularly leads Music Early Learners, and Emily, an occupational therapist and our Wednesday LMNOP leader. Together, they created a soothing and engaging experience full of smiles, singing, and sensory exploration.
Each session of A Gentle Start combines gentle music, infant massage, rocking, and guided movements designed to nurture early motor, sensory, and social skills. Parents and babies explore instruments, songs, and interactive activities that encourage bonding while supporting healthy development. We also share simple, research-based strategies that can be used at home — like why rocking helps regulate a baby’s sensory system or how singing supports early language growth.
But the heart of this program goes beyond the activities. It’s about community. Parenthood in the first year can feel both beautiful and overwhelming, and having a network of understanding families makes all the difference. A Gentle Start gives parents the chance to connect with others who “get it,” share experiences, and celebrate every milestone — from first smiles to first claps — together.
For families looking to continue their journey at GiGi’s, we also offer weekly programs for ages 0–4, including LMNOP, Music Early Learners, and Speech & Language Early Learners. These classes build on the foundation started in A Gentle Start, helping children continue developing communication, coordination, and confidence as they grow. Starting in the 0–12 month group is a great way to ease in before joining these larger programs — and to meet parents of slightly older children who can offer advice and encouragement.
Why Starting Early Matters
The first year of life is an incredible period of growth. Babies’ brains form more than one million new neural connections every second — and every song, touch, and smile contributes to that development. Engaging your baby in early enrichment programs helps strengthen their sensory and motor systems, build early communication pathways, and foster emotional security through social interaction.
At GiGi’s Playhouse, we believe early inclusion builds lifelong confidence. By starting young, babies not only gain valuable developmental benefits but also grow up surrounded by positivity, belonging, and joy. Families who begin their journey with GiGi’s during these early months often stay connected for years, growing alongside a community that celebrates every achievement — big or small.
Our next A Gentle Start at GiGi’s session will be held on November 22nd, and we can’t wait to see both new and familiar faces! Families are encouraged to bring a small blanket for their little one to lay on as we sing, stretch, and explore together.
Your baby’s first year is the beginning of something extraordinary. At GiGi’s Playhouse, we’re here to help you make those early moments full of connection, learning, and love.
Join us for “A Gentle Start at GiGi’s” and experience the joy of growing, learning, and belonging — together.
