October at the Playhouse
So many things happen in October but at GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers Phoenix/Scottsdale, one specific thing comes to our minds when we discuss October – Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Down Syndrome Awareness Month is a wonderful time in which the Down syndrome community – individuals with Down syndrome, their families, friends, and others whose lives have been touched by Down syndrome in some way – join together in celebration of all the amazing things that three 21st chromosomes have done in their lives.
As said in the famous Down Syndrome Creed:
My face may be different but my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry. I take pride in my gains.
I was sent here among you to teach you to love,
As God in the Heavens looks down from above.
To Him I’m no different; His love knows no bounds.
It’s those here among you in cities and towns
That judge me by standards that man has imparted
But the family He’s chosen will help me get started.
For I’m one of His children so special and few
That came here to learn the same lessons as you.
That love is acceptance; it must come from the heart.
We all have the same purpose though not the same start.
The Lord gave me life to live and embrace
And I’ll do it as you do — just at my own pace.
Down Syndrome Awareness Month is dedicated to enforcing the strong statements made within the Down Syndrome Creed as well as sharing the wonderful achievements of individuals with Down syndrome. Throughout the month of October, join GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix/Scottsdale and our amazing community in celebrating Down syndrome and all of the blessings that have come along with that extra chromosome.
