All In for Family: The Yamazakis

A Journey of Family, Connection, and Belonging

Sometimes we use the phrase “all in” to describe people who give their whole hearts to something they believe in. When we think about the Yamazaki family, no phrase feels more fitting. Their love, dedication, and unwavering support for their daughter, Tsubaki, have touched countless lives at GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County and left a lasting mark on our community.

The Yamazaki family’s GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County journey actually began long before they arrived in Orange County. While living in New York, they first discovered the magic of GiGi’s Playhouse and became part of a community that celebrated Tsubaki for exactly who she is. When life brought them across the country to Southern California, they found a second home at GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County. What began in New York continued here, creating a beautiful story of connection that stretches from coast to coast.

Over the years, Tsubaki became a familiar and beloved face around the Playhouse. She participated in literacy tutoring through multiple sessions, working closely with her tutor, Karen, to build reading skills, confidence, and independence. Along the way, she also formed meaningful relationships with math tutors Sara and Riley. These connections grew far beyond academics and became genuine friendships rooted in trust, encouragement, and mutual respect.

One of the most heartwarming examples of these relationships came recently when Tsubaki and her family visited Sara while she was attending college at the University of California, San Diego. Moments like these remind us that the impact of GiGi’s Playhouse extends far beyond our walls. The friendships formed here often become lifelong connections that continue long after a program session ends.

The Yamazaki family’s involvement was never limited to tutoring. They embraced every opportunity to participate in the life of the Playhouse. Whether attending Family Fun Nights, enjoying concerts, supporting GFAC fundraisers, or celebrating at our Gala, Zak and Asuka consistently showed up with enthusiasm, kindness, and a spirit of community. Their presence brought warmth to every event and strengthened the sense of belonging that makes GiGi’s Playhouse so special.

One of the greatest joys has been watching their family grow during their time in Orange County. Tsubaki proudly became a big sister to Hiragi, and before long, he became a familiar face around the Playhouse as well. Hiragi and Asuka even helped launch the relaunch of our LMNOP program in 2026, singing, playing, and engaging alongside our youngest participants and their families. Watching the next generation become part of the Playhouse community was a beautiful reflection of the family-centered environment we strive to create every day.

Now, the Yamazaki family is beginning another exciting chapter as they return to the East Coast. While saying goodbye is never easy, there is something especially meaningful about knowing they are returning to the place where their GiGi’s Playhouse journey first began. From New York to Orange County and back again, they have remained connected to a network of acceptance, achievement, and belonging that spans the country.

Although we will deeply miss seeing their smiling faces in our programs and at our events, we are grateful for every memory we have shared. The Yamazaki family has shown us what it means to be all in for community, friendship, and family. Their kindness, support, and enthusiasm have enriched the lives of so many participants, volunteers, and staff members.

Yamazaki family, thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. Thank you for sharing your time, your hearts, and your unwavering commitment to this community. While your next adventure may take you back to New York, you will always have a place here in Orange County. We are excited to see all the wonderful things ahead for each of you and know that wherever you go, you will continue to inspire others and build community along the way.
